Innovation: Artificial leather made from PBS

We see the PBS material as a potential replacement for, for example, plasticized PVC or polyurethane.

Jury statementThe jurors see a very broad range of applications, from furniture to fashion and leisure to automotive applications.

We see the PBS material as a potential replacement for plasticized PVC or polyurethane, for example. In addition to the use of biopolymers in the top layer, the solution also stands out for its ability to replace the fossil-based carrier material. In the submitted solution, the carrier substrate and the synthetic leather are bio-based and matched. This product can be converted from a multi-material solution to a solution from the biopolyester family, which could also enable biodegradability or compostability.
